Washington, D.C.- Today, Rep. Barry Moore took a firm stance against H.R. 8036, labeling it as a budget gimmick cloaked as a Taiwan aid bill. The legislation, which aims to allocate $8 billion to the Indo-Pacific to bolster Taiwan's military resources, has faced criticism for a provision that permits over $2 billion of the allocated funds to be diverted to Ukraine.
"I believe we should protect Taiwan from Chinese aggression, but this bill is just another example of the same old swamp shenanigans to funnel more money to Ukraine," expressed Rep. Moore. He further added, "I will not vote to allow President Biden to redirect more funding to Ukraine, who has already received $117 billion with little oversight from the United States."
Highlighting the concerns of many Americans grappling with financial challenges exacerbated by inflation, Rep. Moore underscored, "More than half of Americans, many of whom are struggling to make ends meet due to Biden's inflation, believe we should not provide more funding to Ukraine." Emphasizing the need to prioritize national interests, he concluded, "We need to put America first."
