Washington, D.C. — This week, Congressman Barry Moore (AL-02) congratulated the category and overall winners of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. Neo Minjoon Choi, a junior at Pike Road High School, was the winner of the Congressional Art Competition for Alabama's Second District.
Choi's mixed-media work is titled Hopeful Dreams, which is a drawing of himself and his dog, Ottom, a Shih Tzu. He incorporated origami, with cranes stacked and organized on the upper half. Choi said the work is his favorite piece and that, in addition to painting class, he learned by watching his parents, who are also painters, at work. His piece will hang in the halls of the United States Capitol for the next year. Runner-ups will have their work displayed at Congressman Moore's district offices in Wetumpka, Dothan, Troy, and Andalusia.
Every spring since 1982, the Congressional Institute has sponsored the Congressional Art Competition for high school students. The contest is an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved in the nationwide competition.
"I am pleased to congratulate the winner of this year's Congressional Art Competition," said Moore. "It is an honor to have Neo Minjoon Choi's beautiful artwork represent the Second Congressional District of Alabama in the United States Capitol, and congratulations to the other artists who took part this year; they have incredible talent and a bright future ahead."
