Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Barry Moore showed his support for the Laken Riley Act by voting in favor of the legislation, which was sponsored by Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) and of which Moore is a co-sponsor.

The Laken Riley Act is named after Laken Riley, a promising nursing student whose life was tragically cut short by an illegal immigrant on the campus of the University of Georgia. The Act aims to honor her memory by requiring Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain illegal immigrants charged with local theft or burglary offenses.

In a statement, Rep. Barry Moore emphasized the importance of passing this legislation, saying, "We owe it to Laken Riley, her family, and the many other victims of illegal aliens with criminal convictions to end these tragedies." Moore highlighted the urgency of the situation, pointing out that more than 600,000 illegal aliens with criminal charges are currently residing in the United States due to President Biden's policies.

Furthermore, Moore called on President Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to take immediate action, stating, "The longer Biden and Schumer wait to take action, the more Americans they put in danger. I urge them to pass this legislation alongside of H.R.2, which would secure our border, immediately."

The Laken Riley Act addresses the pressing issue of illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds and aims to prevent further tragedies like the one that befell Laken Riley. As the debate on immigration policies continues in Washington, Rep. Moore's support for this legislation underscores the need to prioritize the safety and security of American citizens.
