Washington, D.C. — Rep. Barry Moore has voiced his strong opposition to a border security bill that is currently being negotiated in the Senate. The bill, which has been dubbed a "border security bill," has drawn criticism for its provisions that only shut down the border after 5,000 people per day enter and allocate $2.3 billion in taxpayer funds for refugees. Additionally, the bill proposes an increase of 50,000 green cards per year and allocates a staggering $60 billion to Ukraine, compared to a mere $20 billion for securing the United States' own border.
In a statement, Rep. Moore expressed his concerns about the legislation, stating, "President Biden doesn't need more money, power, or laws on the books to close our southern border. He has the authority to close the border anytime he wants, and hiding behind legislation is a poor excuse for endangering American families over the last three years." Rep. Moore further criticized the Biden administration for leaving the border wide open, resulting in "8.5 million illegal encounters and 1.7 million gotaways." He emphasized that the responsibility for this situation lies firmly on President Biden's shoulders.
Furthermore, Rep. Moore drew attention to the disproportionate focus on Ukraine in the bill. He pointed out that Ukraine is mentioned 370 times in the legislation and is allocated $40 billion more for security than the United States' own border. Rep. Moore made it clear that his allegiance lies with the United States and not with Ukraine, stating, "I don't serve the United States of Ukraine, I serve the United States of America."
Speaker Mike Johnson has also expressed skepticism about the bill's prospects in the House of Representatives, warning that it is likely to be "dead on arrival." With opposition from Rep. Moore and concerns raised about the allocation of resources, it remains to be seen whether the bill will gain sufficient support to pass in Congress.
The ongoing debate regarding border security is a critical issue that affects the safety and well-being of the American people. As lawmakers continue to deliberate on this matter, it is important to consider the perspectives of those like Rep. Barry Moore, who advocate for a stronger focus on securing the United States' own borders and prioritizing the needs of American citizens.
