Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) and Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) have collaborated to address the concerns of domestic cabinet workers facing unfair competition from Chinese merchandise that is being moved through Malaysia and Vietnam. The representatives have co-led a letter to Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, urging her to take action to protect American cabinet manufacturers from China's unfair trading practices.
The letter also received support from Reps. Jerry Carl (AL-01), Mike Rogers (AL-03), Robert Aderholt (AL-04), Dale Strong (AL-05), and Gary Palmer (AL-06). It emphasizes the importance of a fair and transparent certification process and the continued enforcement of anti-dumping orders to maintain a level playing field for American and Alabama cabinet manufacturers.
"Cabinet manufacturers employ 250,000 Americans and thousands of Alabamians," highlighted Rep. Moore. He expressed gratitude to Rep. Sewell for joining him in this effort and stressed the need for a fair certification process and the enforcement of anti-dumping orders. Rep. Moore added, "This will keep the playing field level and combat China's unfair trading practices so that our American and Alabama cabinet manufacturers can continue to thrive."
Rep. Sewell emphasized that Alabama workers can compete and succeed in the global marketplace when given a level playing field. While acknowledging the Department of Commerce's efforts to protect Alabama's cabinet manufacturers against China's illegal trade practices, she emphasized the need for further action to promote fairness and transparency in the industry. Rep. Sewell suggested that implementing a certification process for foreign producers would ensure that all parties are playing by the same rules.
The representatives' letter to Secretary Raimondo highlights the urgent need to address the challenges faced by cabinet manufacturers in the United States. By championing fair trade practices and enforcing anti-dumping measures, the Department of Commerce can protect American jobs and support the growth of the cabinet manufacturing industry.
The collaboration between Rep. Barry Moore, Rep. Terri Sewell, and their colleagues demonstrates their commitment to standing up for American workers and combating unfair trade practices. As the letter reaches Secretary Raimondo's desk, it is hoped that it will garner the attention and action necessary to create a fair and level playing field for cabinet manufacturers in the United States.
