Washington, D.C. — Rep. Barry Moore has recently expressed his support for H.R. 5585, the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), aims to equip law enforcement authorities with the necessary tools to punish smugglers and individuals who fail to yield to Border Patrol agents or police officers during high-speed chases. The legislation was inspired by the tragic death of Agent Gonzalez in December 2022, who lost his life while chasing a group of illegal immigrants who had just crossed the southern border.

"Law enforcement deserves the tools to prosecute and punish smugglers and individuals who intentionally fail to yield to them," stated Rep. Moore. He emphasized the importance of this legislation in light of President Biden's open border policies, which have created a lack of resources for law enforcement agencies. Rep. Moore also commended his colleague, Rep. Ciscomani, for leading the charge on this critical issue.

The Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act seeks to address the dangers posed by high-speed chases. By providing law enforcement with better tools and resources, the legislation aims to reduce the number of dangerous pursuits. This, in turn, will protect both officers and the communities they serve.

The bill has garnered support from various quarters, recognizing the need for enhanced safety measures for law enforcement personnel. It aims to disincentivize those who choose to evade law enforcement and create a safer environment for officers on the ground.

Efforts to improve border security and protect the brave men and women who serve on the front lines have been ongoing. The Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act is a crucial step in providing law enforcement with the necessary tools and resources to combat smuggling and improve officer safety.
