Washington, D.C. - Rep. Barry Moore has made a statement expressing his opposition to the conference report of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024. In his statement, Moore highlighted that the final report does not prioritize conservative objectives necessary to ensure the Department of Defense's focus on national security.
Moore specifically voiced his concerns about the inclusion of various initiatives in the NDAA that he considers divisive and detrimental to the military's mission. He stated, "This version of the NDAA forces American taxpayers to fund abortion travel, sex reassignment surgeries, a one-year reauthorization of FISA with no reforms, which allows weaponized government to spy on Americans, and critical race theory initiatives teaching that our nation's enemies are not abroad, but within our own citizens and military."
The representative expressed his disappointment that the bill incorporated policies that he believes hold service members and taxpayers hostage to the Democrats' radical agenda. Moore emphasized that he had initially supported the House version of the legislation, which focused solely on military readiness and the needs of service members.
The conference report to the NDAA for Fiscal Year 2024 includes various provisions that Moore opposes. These provisions encompass funding for abortion travel and sex reassignment surgeries for service members, as well as support for critical race theory and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the military. Additionally, the bill includes an automatic one-year reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) without any reforms, which allows for continued government surveillance.
Moreover, Moore criticized the limited efforts to counter the growing military capabilities and influence of China, stating that they were watered down. He also raised concerns regarding the allocation of at least $600 million in funding to Ukraine and the inclusion of climate change initiative funding that he believes is meant to appease President Biden's wealthy radical environmentalist base.
Rep. Barry Moore's opposition to the NDAA conference report reflects his disagreement with the inclusion of policies that he perceives as inconsistent with the military's primary mission of safeguarding national security. As the debate surrounding the NDAA continues, it remains to be seen how other lawmakers will respond to the bill's provisions and whether any changes will be made before its final passage.
