Washington, D.C. -- On July 14, Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) participated in the House Judiciary Committee's FBI oversight hearing with witness FBI Director Christopher Wray. Moore questioned Wray on whistleblower retaliation, the Hunter Biden laptop story cover up, and the trust the American people have lost in the FBI.
From his exchange with Director Wray:
Rep. Moore: "Why would the FBI offer Christopher Steele a million dollars to verify a dossier about Trump-Russia collusion? And then the same FBI offer three million dollars to squash a story on the Hunter Biden laptop? Do you have any idea why a law enforcement agency would be playing into elections?"
Director Wray: "Well I -- you've raised a number of issues there -- so first, as to the Steele Dossier, that of course is a subject treated at great length in the Durham report -- and predates my time as director."
Rep. Moore: "I understand that, but it was the same agency paying a million dollars to push one story and out and try to collaborate one story and three million dollars to quiet another story."
Director Wray: "As to the second part [of Rep. Moore's question] related to Twitter, I would disagree with your characterization, respectfully, when there are payments to social media companies, that is by longstanding federal law, going back about four decades, where we have to pay companies for their costs in responding to the legal process."
