MONTGOMERY- Under the leadership of Mayor Steven L. Reed, the City of Montgomery is participating in National Affordable Connectivity Week of Action! As Montgomery continues to grow, advanced, reliable and affordable connectivity has become increasingly important.
This week, Mayor Reed and City leaders are taking steps to ensure that all its citizens have access to high-speed internet. In doing so, they are highlighting programs that help connect residents to high-speed internet, like The Affordable Connectivity Program. The Affordable Connectivity Program Week of Action is an important step forward in bridging the digital divide in Montgomery and throughout Alabama. City leaders hope that by increasing access to affordable internet services, they can make Montgomery a more equitable and connected city.
The ACP program is funded by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and provides affordable access to internet service to those who cannot otherwise afford it. For eligible households, the ACP Program offers a discount of up to $30 per month on broadband service and up to $75 per month for households on tribal lands. The benefit also provides up to a $100 per household discount toward a one-time purchase of a computer, laptop, or tablet if the household contributes more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase through a participating broadband provider.
Families who meet at least one of the criteria for the Affordable Connectivity Program are eligible for the program if their income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Eligible households can enroll by going to GetInternet.gov to submit an online application or print a mail-in application, or by contacting their preferred participating broadband provider and selecting a plan.
