Washington, D.C. — On May 12, Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) voted in support of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, sponsored by Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL). This is the strongest border security package Congress has ever passed, and would restore successful Trump-era immigration policies, continue construction of the border wall, stop child-smuggling, and create criminal penalties for those who overstay their visa.
"As Americans worry about their own future and safety, President Biden is allowing a record number of migrants to pour across our southern border, and his only solution is to drop them off on the street and beg them to turn themselves in to border patrol,” said Moore. "House Republicans are keeping our promises and offering a real solution to this crisis by passing the strongest border package in history."
The Secure the Border Act of 2023:
- Forces the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall
- Deploys technology to the southern and northern border
- Increases the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay
- Requires transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security
- Strengthens current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking
- Ends catch and release
- Ends abuse of executive immigration authority
- Strengthens and streamline the asylum process
