Washington, D.C. -- On April 18, 2023, Rep. Barry Moore (AL-02) introduced legislation to repeal the 16th Amendment to the Constitution, which allows the United States government to collect income taxes on its citizens. Rep. Bob Good (VA- 05) and Rep. Keith Self (TX-03) are co-sponsors of this legislation. Today is Tax Day, the date by which taxes must be filed for most Americans.
"On average, Americans must work nearly half the year to have earned enough to pay their taxes," said Moore. "As they work faithfully to pay into the federal treasury, the Biden Administration's out-of-control spending and record inflation continues to bust their budgets and saddle them with debt for years to come. We need to repeal the 16th Amendment, get rid of the IRS, and put this hard-earned money back in the wallets of American families."
Rep. Bob Good (VA-05): “The current system of taxing hardworking Americans to fund the government is broken. Despite record revenues coming into the federal treasury, politicians are spending us into bankruptcy. Thank you to Rep. Moore for his work to repeal the 16th Amendment, help restore fiscal responsibility in Washington, and keep more money in the hands of the American people, where it belongs."
Rep. Keith Self (TX-03): "For far too long the United States endured a broken tax system that punishes hardworking Americans. It’s time to restore power back to the states and put more money back into the pockets of hardworking taxpayers. I’m proud to support Rep. Moore in repealing the 16th Amendment. This is a critical step in reducing the power of the federal government and will also promote the fiscal accountability Washington desperately needs."
