Mark your calendars for the Montgomery Area Food Bank's ribbon cutting!
The Montgomery Area Food Bank (MAFB) was established in 1986. The mission is to nourish the hungry, educate and mobilize the community, engage in partnerships that advance self-sufficiency, and gather and distribute food to those in need.
The MAFB strategically addresses the challenge of food insecurity. The MAFB has two main strategies for providing food. First, food is provided to the direct service area of 12 counties by working with over 200 partner agencies that serve hungry people through a variety of programs. Second, the MAFB provides food for the remaining 23 counties through four Partner Distribution Organizations (PDOs) headquartered in Auburn, Dothan, Selma, & Tuscaloosa. The PDOs enable the MAFB to provide balanced service to a service area of over 25,000 square miles.
The Ribbon Cutting is for a new 8,000-square-foot freezer. This addition will allow MAFB to source, store, and distribute more food to communities across Alabama.
