Today, the House Judiciary Committee approved a bill introduced by Representative Barry Moore (AL-01). The legislation, named The Jeremy and Angel Seay and Sergeant Brandon Mendoza Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act of 2025, aims to deport any non-citizen convicted or who has admitted to driving under the influence.

In his opening statement, Rep. Moore highlighted the frequency and impact of alcohol-impaired driving incidents in the United States. "Every 45 minutes -- that is how often someone in the United States dies in a crash with an alcohol-impaired driver," he stated. He also cited statistics from 2022, noting there were "13,524 alcohol-impaired driving fatalities and 400,000 injuries."

Rep. Moore shared a personal connection to the issue through a tragic incident involving people from his hometown. "This issue hits close to home for me," he said. He recounted the story of Angel and Jeremy Seay, a newlywed couple from Enterprise who were killed when an intoxicated illegal immigrant crashed into them.
