Rep. Barry Moore supports legislation to end Biden's overreaching energy standards
Jul 9, 2024
Washington, D.C.—Today, Rep. Barry Moore supported two pieces of legislation aimed at protecting consumers from costly and impractical energy standards. The Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards Act and the Refrigerator Freedom Act seek to limit the Department of Energy’s (DOE) authority to enforce energy conservation standards that are not technologically feasible or economically justified.
The Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards Act places strict conditions on the DOE's ability to prescribe or enforce energy conservation standards for dishwashers. The DOE is prohibited from setting these standards unless they are technologically feasible and economically justified, do not result in additional net costs to the consumer, and lead to significant energy conservation.
The Refrigerator Freedom Act imposes similar restrictions for refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, and freezers. The DOE cannot enforce standards unless they are technologically feasible and economically justified, do not increase net costs to consumers, and result in significant energy savings.
"The Biden Administration is determined to burden the American people with excessive and impractical energy regulations," said Moore. "House Republicans want to ensure that energy conservation efforts do not come at the expense of American freedom and prosperity, and these bills protect our constituents from unnecessary costs and keep energy standards sensible and beneficial."
