Lady Eagles, Tigers Split Saturday Series | Faulkner Athletics
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner shared the spoils on a cold March Saturday at Wynn Field with SSAC foe Stillman, winning the first game 2-1 before dropping the second 5-1.
FAULKNER 2, STILLMAN 1
With bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Eavie Polk was hit by a pitch to drive in the game winning run to give Faulkner the win in a pitcher's duel in the first game against the Tigers. Erika Mitchell's leadoff double proceeded an Ivey Hill walk to get two on with nobody out, but back-to-back outs without an advancement made things a little nervy for the hosts in trying to break the tie in the sixth. Kaileigh Harrison's infield single to short loaded the bases allowing Polk's bruise to count for the winner.
The Lady Eagles cashed in its first run with the help of a hit by pitch as Anna Purvis was hit with two outs in the third inning. Gracie Pittman singled her into scoring position before Mitchell drove her in with a single of her own. Stillman drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth to level the score.
Katelynn Inness (5-4) was great in the circle again allowing just two hits and fanned five with no unearned runs in the complete game. She picked up three conference wins on the weekend while allowing just one earned run over 15.2 innings.
Mitchell was 2-3 with a run and an RBI.
The Lady Eagles were not struck out during the game for the first time this season.
STILLMAN 5, FAULKNER 1
The bats went quiet in the second game as the Lady Eagles scattered just four hits over the game with the leadoff batter only reaching once in the game off a Purvis triple in the sixth.
The triple proved to be the only spark Faulkner found in the nightcap as Hill's sacrifice fly drove in the shortstop to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Tigers took advantage of a leadoff single followed by a double in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead off a pair of singles and added to it in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly. Stillman scored twice more taking advantage of a couple Lady Eagle errors in the seventh inning to push the game out of reach.
Chloe Davidson allowed just three earned runs in the complete game effort.
The Lady Eagles continue its 10 game homestand Friday as they take on Brewton-Parker at 2 p.m.
