Bats Go Quiet as Faulkner Drops Two | Faulkner Athletics
GULF SHORES, Ala. – On a day that started with inclement weather and ended much later than anticipated, Faulkner was unable to get the bats going as it dropped a pair of games in the Gulf Shores Invitational.
FREED-HARDEMAN 4, FAULKNER 0
Faulkner opened its weekend with the No. 5 team in the country, falling 4-0 to sister school Freed-Hardeman University. The Lady Lions got two runs in the first off a Sophie Dunavant single and added one in the third when she repeated the feat. Kennedy Harris-Bennett singled in the fifth to add the finishing touches.
Faulkner got three hits in the contest with Erika Mitchell, AnnaMarie Stooksbury and Jordan Boyd each notching a single. Katelynn Inness worked four innings in the circle followed by two frames from Julianna Thames. Brittany Adair got the win for Freed, striking out 12 over seven innings of work.
CENTRAL BAPTIST 7, FAULKNER 0
Game two of the day fared little better for Faulkner as Central Baptist scored two in the third, three in the fifth and two in the second for the 7-0 win. The Lady Eagles got two hits from Anna Purvis as well as a single from Mitchell and a double from Stooksbury in the contest. Thams worked four innings while Chloe Davidson threw the final three.
Faulkner (3-3) returns to action Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against Williams Baptist and at 3:45 p.m. against Xavier-Louisiana.
