7/18/2022

UPDATE ON MISSING PERSON BRITTA ANN LASHLEY

On June 15, 2022, the Autauga County Sheriff's Office received a call from Tammy Lashley of Mount Juliet, TN.  Lashley was concerned about her daughter, 36 year old Britta Ann Lashley.  She had not spoken to her since Feb 2021, and she believed "something bad" had happened to her.  Britta was last known to be in the company of James "Michael" Barrett.

A missing person report was filed and the Autauga County Investigators began searching for Britta and her last known acquaintances in and around Autauga County.  On June 21, 2022, our office posted a missing person notice on social media for Britta, asking for the public's assistance in locating her.  Information was gathered from different sources and the investigation continued.

On July 12, 2022, the Autauga County Sheriff's Office obtained a search warrant for a storage unit located in Prattville, AL, belonging to Michael Barrett.  A search of the unit uncovered the remains of a white female believed to be Britta Lashley.  Abuse of a corpse warrants were obtained for Michael Barrett and an acquaintance, Edward Norman.

On July 13, 2022, an autopsy was performed by the Department of Forensic Sciences.  The findings from the autopsy are still pending.

Based on Britta's physical description, her known tattoos, and other investigative findings, the Autauga County Sheriff's Office is confident the remains are those of Britta Ann Lashley.

This case remains under investigation.
