Faulkner Eagles' Ross, Sosa, Mccarthy Take High Honors in Season Awards

Shawn Ross, July Sosa and Patrick McCarthy highlighted the end of the regular season SSAC awards for Faulkner as announced Tuesday by the league office earning the Player, Pitcher and Coach of the Year awards, respectively. Alex Arauz joined Sosa and Ross on the first team while J.C. Toro claimed second team.

Ross totaled the most home runs (14) and RBIs (55) of anyone in the SSAC throughout the season while feasting in conference play with 10 long balls and 37 runs driven in, also leading the league. He carries a 1.118 OPS and 15 stolen bases.

Sosa ranks fifth nationally with a 1.57 ERA overall and holds a 1.41 ERA in conference play. He averages 13.43 strikeouts per nine innings with a SSAC record 17 strikeouts in a single game against Brewton-Parker. He won SSAC Pitcher of the Week five times this season. The ace holds a .86 WHIP and a .183 opponent batting average.

McCarthy led the Eagles to series wins in every conference series this season, marking the first time in his storied Faulkner career that has led to seven SSAC regular season titles and the one seed in chase of his fifth SSAC tournament crown at the helm to win the Mike Jacobs Coach of the Year Award.

Arauz placed on the first team after batting .310 with 37 RBIs and a .943 OPS. He also earned the gold glove as catcher with a .994 fielding percentage with 13 runners caught stealing for a 40.6 percent caught stealing rate to just 12 passed balls.

Toro earned second team honors with a 3.48 ERA and a .250 opponent batting average with a team-high 75 innings pitched.

Juan Trinidad placed on the All-Freshman team with a .329 batting average and a .432 on base percentage. He was also named the team's Champion of Character.

Tommy Reyes-Cruz and Aaron Hammer were named to the Barnes and Noble College All-Academic team.
