Faulkner (Ala.) swept the SSAC Baseball Player of the Week awards, with Jordan Funk being named SSAC Baseball Player of the Week and July Sosa being named SSAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
The awards are based on performance for the week of March 14-20.
Jordan Funk (Faulkner – SO – OF – Rochester, N.H.)
· In a week that saw Faulkner beat a pair of top-five teams, Funk hit .417 and slugged .750, while totaling five hits, four runs and four RBIs across three games
· In a win over No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan, he went 2-for-4 with a big three-run home run in the eighth inning
July Sosa (Faulkner – SR – RHP – Bronx, N.Y.)
· Sosa wins the award for the third-straight week
· Against No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan, Sosa struck out 11 and walked only one in seven innings of six-hit, shutout ball
· Tennessee Wesleyan came into the game riding a 23-game winning streak and averaged 10 runs per game this season
