FOIA Request to Community College of the Air Force Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, River Region Times has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Community College of the Air Force. This request seeks detailed information about current students who are Chinese Nationals, specifically focusing on their departmental affiliations and scholarship details.
The request includes several specific inquiries:
1. We are seeking documents or lists that reveal all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments. If privacy laws protect student names, we have requested a total count of these students broken down by department.
2. We have asked for documentation detailing scholarships awarded to Chinese National students, including the amount each student receives and the source of these scholarships.
3. Additionally, we seek information about any scholarships provided by grantors affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council. If this data overlaps with our second request, we have asked for clarification on which scholarships fulfill this criterion.
4. Lastly, we have requested any policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors its students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.
This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing transparency through public records access. As members of the media, we believe access to these records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for our readers.
We anticipate that this inquiry will shed light on how educational institutions manage international student programs while protecting sensitive information.
