FOIA Request to Alabama State University Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we at River Region Times have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Alabama State University. Our request seeks detailed information concerning the university’s current Chinese National students and related policies.
Specifically, we have requested documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected by privacy laws, we have asked for aggregated data showing the total number of such students broken down by department.
Additionally, we are seeking records that detail any scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. This includes identifying any recipients of scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Furthermore, our request extends to obtaining any university policies or procedures that describe how Alabama State University monitors its students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.
This inquiry is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency within state and federal agencies. As media professionals dedicated to disseminating vital information to the public, we believe this request aligns with our mission to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency in educational environments.
We look forward to receiving a timely response from Alabama State University and will continue to keep our readers informed about developments related to this request.
